T'old man has held just £500's worth of premium bonds for years and years now.

He has only ever won one prize which was a few years ago and was the lowest prize of £50.

In the post yesterday he had a surprise as he recived notification of his second ever premium bond win.

Alas it was the lowest prize once again only this time it is £25, the scrooges have reduced the lowest possible prize in half recently

I keep on telling him to cash them in but NO..he insists he'll win a biggie prize one day ..YEAH! like he's always going to when he checks his lottery tickets every week

£75 return on £500 invested over a zillion years, wonder what the percentage rate works out at. I agree with T'old man, you've got to be in it to win it

  I was gonna try and work out the interest rate percentage but it was so miniscule I didn't bother

It's a nice surprise, but I'd have thought getting the £500 back would be more useful!

Let him dream, who knows?
My husband has actually won some moneys on the lottery...but he always invest his wins in more tickets, if you see what I mean!

I have three premium bonds bought for me when I was about five. I'm still waiting . . .

My mother once won £50 back in the days when that was a prize worth winning.

  I guess it is just a low risk place to put one's money, it's the possibility of winning a big prize that keeps the money there

Don'tt you have to check the premium bond numbers every week as well?
I seem to remember my mum doing this on a regular basis when we were sat round the kitchen table.

  In t'olden days I guess folk would check their numbers immediately in anticipation of a big win, a bit like my uncles did when checking the pools coupons and when the lottery first started we would be in front of the tele on a Saturday night with lotto tickets at the ready.
  Nowadays though,although there must be ways of checking earlier, if one wins a premium bond prize one is notified by post with cheque enclosed.

T'old man has earned £75 on £500. Only you know what the % is in relation to the time he's owned them. One good thing, he hasn't lost the capital sum, though it has lost original value.

He's done better than I have, I've never won anything but then, my PB's were the very first ones of an even lower denomination than your last winnings. I must see where I have either put them, or 'lost' them.
