  • Enjoy what you have.

It's not very big but it's a tidy little house
    Garden-May-09-010
    and it's all ours.

Then I look out my bedroom to the back and I appreciate the greenery and hard work t'old man does in keeping the garden tidy for me to look at.

Taken from the bedroom window just now.

So this is my motto for today...
"Stop worrying about what you're missing elsewhere and enjoy what's under your very nose (or window, even;) ) :)

  • I'll leave you all with this

I've been trying to think of something, witty, absurd or even downright inspirational to write but as usual I failed miserably!
..so all I have to say is "see you all in a few days, I should be back in the land of blog just in time to hear all about those escapades in Berlin" :'(

I have had strict instructions to go to bed early tonight to get ready for my 'little jolly' tomorrow but all i've got to say to that is
    I DON'T WANT TO GO

You know the saying 'tomorrow never comes'?...well at the moment I wish it never did!!

    'Tomorrow is another day' ...unfortunately!

There's a saying "Today is the first the day of the rest of your life"
..well to me it seems like 'today is the last day of my "old" life'

I don't know what this pic signifies but it seems apt somehow.
I saw it on a site called explodingdog.com

Hopefully catch you all nearer to the weekend when I hope to be in a better frame of mind Xx

  • A regular Sunday

I spent the early part of today cooking, pork chops and two veg for dinner, a shepherd's pie for tomorrow's dinner and a huge dish of rattatoulle for any old time!

In the afternoon I went to a dance workshop in Barnsley, they are held once a month and are run by a local dancer with a great personality Candi Colgrave-Bell !! My friend had got in touch and asked if I felt up to going...I had been feeling that this is probably the last weekend of relative normality that I can forsee and although I am emotionally tired I opted to go anyhow..and I am jolly glad I did as it was a fun couple of hours and I only sat out for five or ten minutes during the whole workshop:-/.

Early evening was glorious with the sun shining down at just the correct temperature to snooze :zz: on the sun lounger in the garden, with a glass of apple juice and some fondant fancies on hand for when I woke up:yes:.

Tomorrow i'm going shopping for a new laptop and a larger TV for the bedroom. I don't really need either of these items but i've decided that now is as good a time as any to indulge myself....after all I may need to stay in bed for longer in the near future,
got to look after myself y'know;)

  • So let's talk about...

    Wigs!!
    and Raquel Welch

Be prepared they said, here's a voucher take it into the shop in the Victoria Arcade.

It's a first for me...trying on Wigs that is.
I don't like the idea of them, I think i'd prefer a floppy hat or a gypsy style scarf.

Nevertheless, Lulu and myself ventured into the said shop.

I considered getting one in an outrageous red shade, I tried a blonde one and that was a definite no no, then I spotted the ideal chestnut shade which is very similar to how my hair is now (tactfully forgetting the grey roots).
That's the shade sorted then, now what style?

"Try this", the assistant said handing me a safe mid length bob.

    "oh no", I reeled, I look like a granny!!.(yes, I know i'm old enough to be one..but...)

After perusing through the glossy catalogue I decided it was a toss up between two styles but on deliberation I eventually settled on this one called Infatuation from the Raquel Welch range.

"You have very good taste" said the young assistant "as it is one of the most expensive in the shop"

    "Oo-er" I said, "I didn't know, that's NOT why I chose it ...mmmm...how much"

    "£269" was the reply

I nearly fell off my chair , wig on my head an' all :))

Now will I ever wear it?...that remains to be seen, but don't worry, it won't be a waste of NHS resources as my Bella said that if she keeps producing grey hairs at the alarming speed she is currently doing ( she has about three strands but thinks they cover three quarters of her head ) then she may well borrow it from me :>>

    wig1

I'll have to buy a stand to rest it on, the mirror doesn't do it justice really :)

  • MY thought for today

Why oh why is one given options when one really doesn't want any? ... and why oh why does one have to make decisions when one isn't feeling the slightest bit decisive either!?

Oh well, never mind, decisions can be delayed for a while, as i'm going out for the afternoon and intend to have a stress-free time :) ...but I have put on my winter woollies over a T shirt as one can never tell what the weather is going to be like in a cricket field over yonder in Shepley!!

  • You really wanted to see a Wood Pigeon...didn't you ?

It's been a random sort of a day really, taking it easy mainly, doing a few blog postings HERE and HERE ..."that's enough blogging for today" I thought

So then I had a rest and after a while on the way to the bathroom I passed the landing window and spied a little bird perched on my garage roof
    Through-the-landing-window-001
I dashed for my camera to take a photo through the window as I daren't open it or else it would fly away!

A nice bath beckons then it's up early for an appointment in Leeds tomorrow .....Rivetting stuff..isn't it:) :))

    p.s
Remember when these trees looked like this?
    friday-13th-015
Well, they now look like this garden-9-May-09-019

The bad news is that there are now painted white marks alongside the kerb and on the verge alongside where alledgedly the gas board are due to come and dig it all up to lay new pipes!!! Would you credit it:##

  • The Throwing of the Bread Buns

I'm hoping to go to another folk festival this weekend at Shepley as I missed a planned one at Holmfirth last weekend as I didn't feel so good, but before I collect some more 'Folkie' photos I thought i'd wrap up my visit to Wath Folk festival first by posting these.

On Saturday of May day weekend Little Sis and I just timed it nicely to witness the traditional bread bun throwing from the top of the church tower.
It is a traditional annual event 'The Reading of Thomas Tuke's Will' and the 'Throwing of the Buns From the Church Tower' ceremony which is held in remembrance of Thomas Tuke, a former resident of Wath, who died in 1810. Among the bequests to the poor of Wath in his Will, he stated that: 'Forty Dozen penny buns to be thrown from Church tower at twelve o'clock on Christmas Day, forever'.
It seemed more appropriate to be held in May, so his wishes are now carried out on, or around, May Day. He also left in his will, a penny to every child who attended his funeral; as a result, 600-700 children attended and collected their money.
2009 is the 200th anniversary of the writing of Thomas Tuke's Will, and 2010 the 200th anniversary of his death.

The bread buns are hoisted up (by these guys in period dress)
to the parishioners at the top of the tower who throw them down to the waiting 'poor folk'

See if you can see any bread whizzing through the air in this 30 second clip :)

The kiddies on the ground eagerly anticipate catching the bread buns and as these following pics show, they enjoyed eating them too :)

Afterwards entertainment is provided outside the old church doors.

Then we went into Montgomery hall to enjoy the the afternoon concert, more of which I will write about later on my isasplays blog.
All in all a very enjoyable afternoon.

  • Ring that bell

This little trinket, the brass crinoline lady bell has been in my possession for a very long time, from the 1960's or thereabouts..I can't remember where I got it from but an old aunt springs to mind.

    garden-9-May-09-008
I don't know why I kept her as she has been in the bric-a-brac box in the shed for decades but suddenly, just lately, I have found a use for her.
Recently t'old man has decided to be quite attentive , he usually brings me a cup of coffee in bed but lately he has taken to bringing me breakfast up too (I know it's disgusting eating in bed but sometimes one has to take advantage) then when I have finished eating I ring lady brass bell and he comes up the stairs and takes the tray away.

She has a loud ding a ling too but he doesn't seem to mind :)

btw. she is pictured in the garden because Olive and Popeye took her out for a walk today HERE

  • The mighty Zulu Nation

Hey La_Spice! guess who else I saw today at Wath Folk festival?

I saw this troupe at Cleckheaton folk festival two years ago..I even had my photo taken with the handsome one back then;)

    These I took today.

    Wath-F.F-004Wath-F.F-001

Here is the amateur vid I took of them in 2007 ...it has had 3,343 hits which is mega for my sad little vids :)

  • Angels looking at me!

I had Angels looking at me today...no not what you think, just these little treasures in the marquee at Wath Folk festival today.
    Wath-F.F-025
They were part of the fringe event and well received they were too.
Their musician is Bill Brookman, childrens entertainer ...now what is he doing?
    Wath-F.F-027
Ok now, up on to the stage girls....and perform your angel dance :)

Here's a little video I made today which i've just uploaded to Youtube :)

  • Ordinary is Good!

What a lovely day it has been today, the sun has been shining most of the day.
I had an early start as I had an appointment in Leeds at 8.45 so Lulu(eldest daughter) picked us up and dropped me and t'old man off as she works in Leeds which was very convenient.
Formalities were over with by ten o'clock so I decided to amble around the shops. I really like Leeds and although it is commutable distance from where I live I don't go very often at all, in fact I think I have only been in the centre once since I met Mira at the indian restaurant in mid March.
My that seems such a long time ago now although it isn't at all.

I digress...T'old man went off to buy a new electric shower as ours had broken so I took the opportunity of enjoying a bit of time alone in the sunshine. He has been so supportive lately but we were never a couple who are constantly 'joined at the hip' so it felt kind of normal somehow.
I mooched around the shops and bought a new night dress and a lightweight coat which will be perfect to wear when I go to Berlin, it matches my new shoes too;) then I sat on a bench and ate a sandwich before gravitating over to where I could hear a sort of howling noise.
Most visitors to Leeds will be familiar with this old busker and Bess the singing dog as they are resident buskers in Leeds.
I stood and enjoyed their rendition of 'Something stupid' took a photo and tossed a coin in the guitar case.

    Bess-and-busker-001

I recorded a little video but the sound is so bad it's not worth posting but here's a link to a video someone else took previously
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndhgVD3-Y-Y

It was an ordinary day doing simple things but a day when one was glad to be alive
..then I got home, phoned my sis and arranged an outing to Wath folk festival tomorrow to see one of my favourite young female artists Rosie Doonan....Lovely :)
